Linde Werdelin SpidoLite SA Rose Gold

Linde Werdelin SpidoLite SA Rose Gold

The new Linde Werdelin SpidoLite SA Rose Gold automatic watch sports LW’s signaure see-through skeleton dial and the iconic Blue Gold rotor of its vintage AS 1876 calibre NOS automatic movement.

I have always wondered: what if I was very, VERY successful carpenter, would I want to buy an iron jack with cast platinum body and its handles made of some precious sort of African wood?

I mean, come on, Linde Werdelin makes superb instruments for diving and hiking and other extreme sports. Why would anyone want his or her tool to be made of gold, which is so soft you can scratch it while picking your nose?

Anyway, although I strongly prefer the SpidoLite in the DLC-coated titanium case this one is, too, absolutely beautiful.

Linde Werdelin SpidoLite SA Rose Gold limited edition automatic watch

Judging by the initial specs that the Danish watchmaking brand has published in its press release, the watch is going to be more than imposing.

At 12 millimeters, its partly skeletonized case is not particularly thick, but at 46 millimeters wide and 49 millimeters long, the watch will take every square inch of a normally proportioned wrist!

To make the watch look lighter and more interesting, LW’s designers have treated some parts of the piece with black DLC coating. While the DLC-coated titanium screws and the setting crown simply look better, the DLC-treated skeletonized dial also offers more contrasting background for the triangle-shaped hours, minutes, and seconds hand that are crafted from rose gold.

Since this is still a watch for an adventurer, all three hands, as are the four hour markers are covered with layers of white Superluminova, which makes it a lot easier to read time after dusk.

The watch seems to be powered by the same NOS (New Old Stock) caliber AS 1876 automatic movement that was produced back in 1970s and recently acquired by the brand and modified in order to be more up to contemporary standards of accuracy and reliability. We have already seen these modified engines in the aforemntioned Linde Werdelin SpidoLite DLC-coated skeletonized titanium watch that was first revealed in the beginning of last year.

However I would not advise using the watch with LW’s Reef or Rock computers if you don’t want to scratch it.
