The Swiss watch brand Edox has just announced a new collection of ladies diving watches that will soon come on sale as Edox Chronolady Class-1 Chonograph series. Like many recently unveiled timekeepers, the new watch sports a sexy mix of a slightly oversized stainless steel body and a white (pictured) or black, extremely scratch-resistant ceramic bezel, which is matched by a rubber strap of the same color.
Equipped with the Edox 104 quartz caliber, which is based on a relatively new Ronda 5040.D movement, the Edox Chronolady Class-1 Chonograph (Ref. 10403 3B NAIN) is delivered in a mid-sized case measuring 38 mm in diameter and 12.1 mm in height. Now, given its intended audience, the case is clearly not compact if you are accustomed to wear timekeepers of an average size. However, given its overall “rugged elegance” styling, I would say that the timekeeper is still, um, as wearable as a 48 millimeter Panerai designed for men: it surely looks big on a normal wrist, but that’s how it is actually supposed to look.
The watch, which is clearly inspired by Hublot Big Bang divers, is available in four versions: two black PVD coated and two in polished 316L stainless steel. All four are equipped with unidirectional rotating ceramic bezels, black and white respectively.
Although posing as a diving companion (and actually rated for whole 300 meters of water resistance) the bezel of the watch for some unknown reason seems to come only in fixed version, which makes it difficult to count elapsed diving time.
On the other hand (in both meanings of the word), a great deal of divers uses electronic diving computers to safely count time spent under water and to record (and then to easily analyze) all the data pertaining to the latest submersion. So, the lack of a rotating bezel is probably not a serious issue.
The most versatile (and elegant) of them is probably the model with reference number 10403 3B NAIN (pictured.)
Its stainless steel case is perfectly complemented by a white ceramic bezel, white rubber strap, and a white genuine mother of pearl dial.
While there are no diamonds on the bezel (which is considered a mortal sin by some,) there are around 43 tiny, but shiny stones that form a large Arabic “12” numeral.
The standard tri-compax dial layout offers superb legibility both for the chronograph, which is equipped with small, but thick hands, and the hour and minute hands that are also covered with some luminescent substance.
The dial doesn’t look very contrast on the pictures, but in real life white mother of pearl provides more than adequate background for a polished stainless steel.
The watch will come on sale worldwide in a couple of weeks. Pricing is still unknown.
