Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo Swiss Watches

Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo

In about a week, the legendary Swiss watchmaker will present its new, extra-ugly, yet very high-tech baby: the hand-wound Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo limited edition watch.

As the older members of the growing Freak family, the new watch features a pair of tourbillons on its skeletonized dial. One, the carousel, is designed to move the hour and minute hands, and the other, flying, serves as a small seconds indicator.

The controversial pair of rotating fluted bezels is also still here.

If you spent some time under the rock or in Guantanamo, I must explain that the front bezel is for setting the time and it rotates both clock- and counterclockwise, and the other, on the back side of the watch, is for winding-up the movement.

As a result, there is no crown that sometimes may become a source of exquisite irritation because of its constant desire to bite into the back of your hand.

What is new here is the design of the movement. Now, the hand-wound job makes even greater use of silicium (aka silicon, the material, which is commonly used in semiconductor industry for making microchips).

Lightweight, non-magnetic and robust, the material is used for the hairspring, as well as for the most components of its non-lubricated escapement making the watch even more accurate.

In fact, the Swiss watchmaker claims that the watch is as accurate “as a mechanical chronometer”.

Its gorgeous (and somewhat imperial) case is made of 18-carat white gold and is not particularly large measuring only 44.50 mm in diameter.

There is still no info regarding the timepiece’s price, but, trust me, it’s going to reach the skies.

As usual with the Freak family, you either like it so much you ready to kill for it, or hate it so much you want to kill the guy who designed it. Well, I guess that I belong to the first party.
