The Swiss watchmaker keeps introducing new special editions of its legendary Reverso family of double-faced timekeepers that was first presented almost 80 years ago. While there was recently presented another gorgeous enameled model, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Email Limited Edition hand-wound wrist watch features an elegant combination of guilloche, enamel and gold.
Like a number of other members of this year’s Grande Reverso watches, the new timepiece is animated by a relatively simple JLC Caliber 822 manually wound movement that was originally designed for the gorgeous Reverso Grand Taille model.
Crafted, assembled and decorated by hand, the movement that was introduced in 1992 and from that time enjoying a reputation of a robust (which is not surprising at all considering the fact that Jaeger-LeCoultre pitches their Reverso and Grande Reverso collections as the best possible choice for polo players, and, you know, polo players tend to subject their wristwatches to a lot of stress that most less rugged movements just can’t cope with) and accurate mechanism is only 2.94 millimeters thin and is 17.2 mm and 22.6 mm wide and long.
Despite the movement’s impressive thinness (the same engine powers the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Special Italian Edition watch, for example, which is only 7.20 millimeters thick,) the case of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Email looks somewhat bulky.
Being 48.5 x 30 millimeters long and wide, the white gold case of the watch is more than 10 millimeters thick!
Part of the blame may go to the dial of the watch that, thanks to the finely executed guilloche pattern, a dense layer of blue enamel, and a set of applied Arabic numerals crafted from white gold, has also got somewhat thicker. However, it is difficult to attribute the 3.2 mm increase in height to the dial alone.
Well, maybe the timekeeper’s designers simply weren’t set with a task of designing an ultra-slim watch and used an extra millimeter or two to make the case more rigid and robust.
Anyway, compared to most currently offered hand-wound watches, the new Grande Reverso Email features a well-proportioned and extremely elegant body that, despite its age, still serves as a good example of an evergreen design.
According to the Swiss watchmaker, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Email is going to be delivered in an extremely small lot of only 50 pieces, so there is a good chance that the model will immediately become a rarity, which is highly thought after by serious watch collectors all over the world.
