For the next year, the Swiss watchmaking brand is seriously expanding its majestic Grande Seconde line. Almost right after the gorgeous Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Quantieme model, the company proudly introduces the top of the line Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Tourbillon (Ref. J013033200) automatic wrist watch that, as the name implies, features a tourbillon module working as a subsidiary seconds indicator.
According to the Swiss watchmaker, the new series is going to be offered in (at least) two versions (white gold and rose gold) that will differ from each other like Marilyn Manson differs from Luciano Pavarotti respectively.
Okay, bad example.
While sporting the same dial layout, the model in white gold boasts a technocratic approach to decor with its face adored with brilliantly executed Geneva stripes pattern and the overlapping hours and seconds rings covered with a transparent figure-8-shaped sapphire ring with black Arabic and Roman numerals transferred on its upper surface.

The version in rose gold is, on the other hand, presented with a more classical finish featuring an expensive and defiantly low-tech off-white Grand Feu enamel and a pair of hour and minute hands crafted from rose gold.
The seconds hand, which is mounted on the tourbillon carriage (the latter, by the way, is, too, cut from a piece of sapphire crystal,) is in blued steel.
Although the Caliber 25JD in-house movement that powers the watch doesn’t seem to be especially large (au contraire, judging by the diameter of its oscillating weight it is quite small,) the new Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Tourbillon is nevertheless presented in an oversized (for a dress watch) body whole 43 millimeters in diameter.
Perhaps, JD’s designers simply tried to compensate for the timekeeper’s thickness creating a better-proportioned body.
You see, the new self-winding Caliber 25JD that, as far as I understand, is based on Frederic Piguet Caliber 25, but is modified and re-finished solely in-house, features a significantly extended power reserve that guarantees at least 168 hours (a whole week!) of power supply, but in return demands for an oversized mainspring barrel (probably, there are at least four of them working in two stacks.)
Anyway, it is a beautiful watch and I have a feeling that it is going to become an instant hit (within its price niche, of course) when finally arriving to expensive boutiques all over the world.
