Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral (Ref. LCF001-R) Swiss Watches

Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral (Ref. LCF001-R)

Around two years ago, almost immediately after its official introduction, the gorgeous in its understatement Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic watch won the Best Men’s Watch award at the 2010 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix. For this year, the young Swiss brand expands the line with this elegant Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral (Ref. LCF001-R) hand-wound wrist watch. Sporting the same caliber and dimensions, the watch will soon be released featuring even more impressive combination of colors and materials.

Currently, the Ref. LCF001-R is available only in two varieties: one with a white Grand Feu enameled dial and black hands and the other with a black onyx dial and polished white gold hands.

The new version of the watch adds to the mix the same 18-carat red gold body, which is beautifully matched with slate-grey dial and red gold hands, as well as the Arabic numerals that are, too, crafted from the same precious metal.

Although it is not clearly seen on the photos, the new dial features finely executed vertical satin-brushed finish, which makes it even more similar to a tiny piece of slate.

As I have already noted, dimensions of the red gold body remained the same. It is presented in a slightly oversized case of 41 millimeters in diameter and some 12.5 millimeters thick.

Although the timekeeper looks just a trifle too big for a dress watch, which it is, I must admit that it’s proportions are absolutely outstanding: the watch looks really slim and compact.

Beating inside the precious body is their great Caliber FNB 916.01 hand-wound movement.

While Laurent Ferrier cannot be called a full-fledged Manufacture (it outsources some crucial parts of the caliber from third-party manufacturers,) it must be noted that the movement is not only designed by the brand’s engineers, it is also assembled and hand-decorated solely on LF’s own premises.

As you can see on the photos below, the beautifully decorated caliber is equipped with a tourbillon escapement. Crafted, decorated and assembled by hand, the carriage is fitted with whole two hairsprings that balance each other’s inertia thus ensuring the timekeeper’s accuracy in virtually any position.

It is expected that the watch will be officially presented this month during Baselworld 2012 event.
