Well, here we go again with yet another expensive quartz-powered timepiece from the Swiss jeweler. The new Peter Tanisman Carrousel Red Passion, while coming in a modest stainless steel body, can still be considered as a jewelry item, since its signature “mobile cylinder” is filled with dozens (if not hundreds) of blood-red sapphires. Now, that’s something to wear on St. Valentine’s Day.
However, besides the contents of the cylinder (that looks quite spectacular, I must admit), there is nothing particularly new about this watch.
Designed for ladies, the timekeeper is still presented in the same, easily recognizable case that sports relatively compact dimensions of 41 mm in length and just 30 millimeters in width. It is also quite slim thanks to its simple, battery-powered movement.
The H-shaped body is so long thanks to its overstretched horns in the lower part of the case that not only hold the bright red alligator leather strap, but also keep the aforementioned cylinder.
The sober dial of this playful timepiece is matt silver-toned and decorated with so called “Gadroon” motif: a decorative pattern, which is most often used in architecture and in metalwork. However, while the pattern usually consists of convex curves, this one seems to comprise concave stripes the way Greek ionic columns do.
As the rest of the model range, the new Peter Tanisman Carrousel Red Passion is animated by the usual for this model range ETA E01.701 quartz movement. In terms of telling time, this two-hander gives only the basic functionality that is limited to only hours and minutes. However, it is still not the usual dead simple mechanism: unlike many other quartz calibers, the movement allows you to adjust time on your wristwatch using “corrector” push-pieces on the other side of the case allowing you to move the hands in just 1-hour or 1-minute increments. Yes, there is no more need to do the job by using the setting crown (and there is actually no such thing on this watch for that matter.)
Well, that seems to be quite enough for a jewelry watch designed not to tell time, but simply to be beautiful. Also, built on 5 jewels, the movement is not only robust, but is also quite accurate, so there is nothing shameful about it powering such an expensive timekeeper.
