It looks like Saint Honore -a French fashion brand that also deals in all sorts of luxury accessories including leather wallets, pens and even cuff-links- is getting quite serious about its watchmaking (or rather “watchselling”) business. While the models that were introduced last year looked very attractive and well-designed (especially if you compare them to the Saint Honore Haute Couture Haussman ladies watch that the company has introduced back in late 2010: as luxurious as it was, it also leaved much to be desired in the good taste department), this new Saint Honore Euphoria One Carat model is plain gorgeous.
Like many fashion timekeepers designed with ladies in mind, the Saint Honore Euphoria One Carat is powered by a “Swiss made” quartz movement. Simple and unassuming (their PR department didn’t even bother to mention the name of the mechanism) and clearly not offering the usual mojo of a hand-crafted mechanical caliber, the movement allowed the brand’s designers to create a watch that elegantly combines a cushion-shaped body with a three-dimensional dial, but still stays quite slim to look great even on a skinny and delicate wrist.
Although at 35 millimeters in width the watch is not very large, the ultra slim bezel of the device still leaves enough real estate on its face to combine a thick, nicely executed chapter ring decorated with prominent polished hour markers and 102 white diamonds and a central plate, which is fashioned from white mother-of-pearl.
Frankly, I think that putting the bold capitalized “DIAMOND” inscription on the plate was not the best idea, but, well, at least it somehow balanced an even larger “Saint Honore” logo printed at 12 hours.
Like many watches of this sort, the gadget lacks lume on its hour markers, however the watch will still be easily readable in darkness thanks to a healthy layer of some luminous substance on its broad sword-shaped hands.
As I have already noted, the mirror-polished stainless steel body of the timepiece looks very elegant and slim: something that many watchmaking brands operating in the “entry luxury” niche rarely manage to achieve. While it has a very subtle vintage feel about it, the way it is decorated with 172 diamonds totaling exactly 1 carat, the way its black onyx cabochon sings in unison with black satin or leather strap, and even the not so usual design of its lugs (which, by the way, may be a problem when time finally comes to change the stock strap for an aftermarket one, especially if you happen to live far away from boutiques that sell these timekeepers) make a very distinct impression of a modern watch.
While sporting a really expensive look, this watch is in fact quite affordable given all the diamonds that cover its body, dial and the lug attachments. So far, the brand asks approximately €2500 (the price may vary depending on local taxes) for this little beauty.
It will be presented at Baselworld 2014 later this month.
