Breitling has just informed the press that it is updating its trendy SuperOcean line of diving watches. According to their press release, the new Breitling SuperOcean 42 Mariner Blue will be, as usual, issued as a limited edition model and will feature a new Mariner Blue color scheme.
Patek Philippe doesn’t seem to be especially consistent when it comes to design of their Gondolo series or rectangular watches. The things that they seem to share is an elongated body and, of course, a brilliantly executed mechanism that powers the gadget. Among the three models of the series that are currently present on the Swiss brand’s corporate web-site, the 2013 Patek Philippe Gondolo 8 Days (Ref. 5200G) is the most exciting with its finely crafted case and deliciously complicated, exquisitely finished movement.
It keeps getting better. Breitling has just released a PR blurb regarding its Transocean series of classic-styled wrist watches. Equipped with their relatively fresh in-house chronograph movement, the new 2013 Breitling Transocean Chronograph GMT adds second time zone functionality to the elegant collection.
Back in 2012, Alpina has presented its rugged-looking Alpina Extreme Diver 300 Automatic three-hander. For this year, the Swiss-based brand updated the collection with a chronograph version of the watch predictably calling it “Alpina Extreme Diver 300 Automatic Chronograph“. Although the function is clearly superfluous even for an amateur diver (I can’t really imagine a guy going underwater without an electronic diving computer), the mechanical movement that powers it is based on a legendary work-horse, which is known for its bullet-proof reliability and adequate accuracy.
Patek Philip‘s classic Calatrava line has just been updated for this year. Featuring a tried and tested automatic movement and a body of classic proportions, the new Patek Philippe Calatrava (Ref. 5227) automatic watch looks emphatically modest, even in its precious rose gold body.
With its new Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service (Ref. 01 735 7672 4084-Set LS) that was presented last week at Baselworld 2013, the Swiss-based maker of affordable timekeepers keeps exploring the niche of vintage styled watches with a sweet modern flavor. Featuring the same 44 mm body with the easily recognizable grooved bezel as their previous “pilots” (like, say, the classic Oris Challenge International de Tourisme 1932 Limited Edition), the device also sports a quite contemporary dial with its hands and scales resembling instrument gauges on military planes.
For the last Baselworld 2013 event that ended on Thursday, the Swiss entry-luxury brand Tissot has updated its range of analog-digital chronograph watches. Compared to earlier iterations of the model, this new Tissot T-Race Touch looks a lot more interesting and, well, even expensive. However, I am still not sure whether the actual production versions of the watch will look as good as the heavily photoshopped image on the promotional photo that you can see right after the jump.
Baselworld 2013 will finally close its doors tomorrow, but there are still dozens of watches I plan to tell you about during the coming weeks. Among them, the new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe clearly stands out thanks to its vintage-styled body, which is crafted using the most high-tech materials and manufacturing processes.
The new Concord Saratoga Chronograph (Ref. 0320219) watch makes somewhat dubious impression. It certainly does look expensive and very advanced, but is powered by a quartz movement, although from this brand one could expect nothing but a high-tech mechanical caliber.
Available both in stainless steel and in rose gold PVD versions, this new Saint Honore Trocadero Chronograph could be a timepiece of choice for a person searching for a classic-styled “Swiss made” chronograph watch on a very tight budget. And never mind its quartz movement: it just works.
