The French fashion brand has updated its Saint Honore Haute Couture Haussman line of ladies watches with a new timekeeper. Although not looking as spectacular as their 2008 Haussman Tourbillon model with all that carbon fiber, titanium and rubber, the new watch will definitely appeal to the ladies searching for a ‘unisex’ watch to complement their wardrobe.
Featuring lots of diamonds on its round bezel and lugs, the watch comes in a relatively large stainless steel case around 38 mm in diameter.
The flashiest part of the watch is, of course, the bezel. Looking like it was CNC-machined out of a single block of steel, mirror-polished, set with diamonds, and bolted down to the cushion-shaped case with six screws, it draws the bulk of attention playing quite nicely with the massive crown guards creating an impression of a sporty watch.
The only problem is that, judging by the fact that the Saint Honore Haute Couture Haussman is officially rated only for 3 ATM of water resistance (which is more commonly referred to as “30” meters,) it is certainly not. I mean, although the Haute Couture Haussman looks deliberately -almost to a degree of overdoing it- massive and robust, its underwhelming ability to keep water outside the mechanism means that you will have to be quite careful using this watch. Even a situation as banal as washing your hands before a meal in a cafe or a restaurant can be potentially dangerous in case you splash too much water on it.
Even if you don’t ruin the movement with a sudden leak of water, you probably won’t like your dial fogged on the inner side making the watch illegible and, well, not particularly impressive to a person sitting next to you.
So, it is more for that kind of women who would like to keep their image of an energetic person -even at a pre-Christmas cocktail party-, but have their G-Shock handy in a purse when they feel like visiting a gym or a swimming pool. Yet, again: if you are looking for something sporty and practical, you should probably look somewhere else.
Inside the stainless steel case is a simple Swiss quartz movement that offers a standard three-hand dial layout with a small date display at 6 o’clock.
The hours and minutes are displayed with polished broad-sword-shaped hands that are perfectly balanced with the three oversized Arabic numerals at 4, 8 and 12 o’clock.
As far as I understand, the numerals are also made of polished steel and look really good on the white mother-of-pearl dial.
There is still no info about the timekeeper’s MSRP, but I do not think that the watch will be very expensive.
