The Swiss watchmaker has recently presented a new collection of ladies watches. Called Chopard Happy Sport La vie en rose (Ref. 278475-3030), the new family features the signature elements of the Happy Sports series: the famous mobile diamonds that travel freely across the mother-of-pearl dial with a contoured rose on it.
La vie en rose, The Life in Pink. That was the name of the song written and composed by the Edith Piaf: a small French woman who lived fast and died young at the age of 48.
Although she performed a great number of other beautiful songs, this hymn to love is the first one that comes to mind when thinking about the French singer.
In the 1960s the adapted version of the song was performed by Louis Armstrong and a couple of years ago it was even sang by Jack Nicholson in Something’s Gotta Give (well, before that movie I never knew that Mr. Nicholson could actually sing.)
Well, you see that the song is not just popular. It is a cultural phenomenon.
No wonder that Chopard even named a watch collection after it.
As it often happens with ladies watches, the Chopard Happy Sport La vie en rose (Ref. 278475-3030) is powered by a relatively simple quartz movement.
Besides hours and minutes, it is capable of displaying on seconds and a simple calendar, which is visible through a small date aperture at 4 o’clock.
As usual, the layout of the dial seems to be well balanced, although the “Chopard” insignia at 12 o’clock seems to be too large for my taste, drawing to much attention to itself.
Also, the swords-shaped hands look just a trifle short for the dial, looking like the watchmaker simply took the hands from the stock pile and put them on the dial.
Besides these minor annoyances, I have no more complaints about this watch.
According to official specifications, the Chopard Happy Sport La vie en rose (Ref. 278475-3030) comes in compact stainless steel case.
Only 36 mm in diameter, the timekeeper will probably fit just about any wrist and, being powered by a quartz caliber, it is also quite thin, which makes it a perfect lady’s accessory.
Its fixed stainless steel bezel is set with 40 pink sapphires and another sapphire of the same color adorns the setting crown.
There is still no information regarding the timekeeper’s price, but, judging by already existing similarly equipped models from the Happy Sport model range, the Chopard Happy Sport La vie en rose with reference number 278475-3030 is going to be offered at a pretty much high MSRP of at least $12,000 (update on price: the Ref. 278475-3030 will retail for $11,000).
Well, that is the price you pay for owning a jewelry piece from an established Swiss watch brand.
