Although surely not as flashy as the recently presented JD Heure Celeste timekeeper, the new Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Art Deco (Ref. J005013570) family of ladies watches offers the level of understated elegance and refinement that you will rarely find even in the most expensive fashion timepieces made by the Swiss and French jewelry houses.
Presented in a slender-looking, round 18-carat rose gold case about 39 millimeters in diameter and featuring an ultra-thin bezel made of the same noble material, the new Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Art Deco Ref. J005013570 features the Swiss brand’s signature off-centered dial layout.
Separated from the rest of the dial with a thin applied ring, which is also crafted from 18-carat rose gold, the tiny main sub-dial features an elegant dotted minute track printed in high-contrast black over the natural white mother-of-pearl background, and a pair of finely crafted hour and minute hands.
The bigger part of the dial, too, features a patch of mother-of-pearl of the same color.
However, in this case the material sports so called Ramolaye pounced ornament: an embossed moire pattern, which is first painstakingly engraved and then carefully smoothed down with rifflers.
Since mother-of-pearl is highly fragile and may easily crack under an unskilled hand, extreme care is needed when the finish is applied. However, the resulting product looks just too great not to invest considerable time and effort into making the ornament.
Also, it is very pleasant to see that the watch is not decorated with the usual Cotes de Geneve stripes or a sunray pattern, but features a very fresh motif inspired by Art Deco from the glorious 1920s.
Made exclusively by hands of skillful artisans, each dial must be as unique as a fingerprint.
As the last year’s Jaquet Droz Cloverleaf that was presented during SIHH 2010 industry event in Switzerland, the new ladies watch is, too, powered by a sophisticated Jaquet Droz 2653 automatic movement, which is, as usual, sourced from Blancpain-owned manufacture Frederic Piguet, yet modified and refinished solely in-house.
Thanks to its signature double-barrel design, the self-winding caliber stores enough power to run the watch for at least 68 hours after being fully wound.
It basically means that you can put the watch off your wrist on Friday at 6:00 PM and store it in your safe till Monday 8:00 AM and it will still be working with its usual accuracy and precision.
