Chopard Jacky Ickx Edition V Chronograph Limited Edition Swiss Watches

The new Chopard Jacky Ickx Edition V Chronograph automatic watch will be issued as a limited edition model that is going to be available either in stainless steel, or in much more expensive (but also a lot more imposing) rose gold body. This is the fifth time that the Swiss watchmaker updates its 24 Hours of Le Mans-inspired Jacky Ickx chronograph watch.

While in terms of internal hardware it remains about the same (the only major difference is that its self-winding caliber is now COSC-certified as a chronometer,) the model features revised styling to its dial, bezel, as well as the setting crown and the pair of chronograph pushers.

Compared to the Chopard Jacky Ickx Edition IV 24-hour chronograph that was issued around two years ago, the new model features more contrast, easy to grasp dial.

The hour and minute hands are wider and feature more Superluminova on them. The faceted hour markers, too, finally became luminous, so there will be no more issues in reading the watch in darkness.

The 24-hour and 60 minute chronograph sub-dials are still located at their usual positions at 6 and 9 o’clock respectively, but are now, too, somewhat easier to read and more pleasant to look at thanks to their bright-red hands. The large subsidiary seconds sub-dial at 3 hours now offers more contrast layout.

As you can see on the photos, the fixed bezel is now covered with black lacquer (it would be more pleasant to have an Omega-style ceramic insert here, but, well…) and still features a tachometric scale that allows to track speed of a moving object judging by the time it took to travel one kilometer.

The chronograph push-pieces were also significantly restyled. While the previous model had more or less dull-looking pushers, the new one features piston-shaped push-pieces.

Thanks to a screw-lock crown and chronograph pushers, the watch has a pretty decent water resistance rating of 50 meters. Of course, it is not really recommended to swim energetically wearing this timekeeper, but, hell, there are hundreds of expensive diving watches that you can choose from if you want something to show-off on a beach or near the swimming pool.

Like the previous version, the new Chopard Jacky Ickx Edition V Chronograph is powered by an unspecified COCS-certified chronograph movement.

Clearly a version of the Dubois-Depraz 44560 caliber, which is basically the well-known ETA 2892 ebauche with a chronograph movement attached to it (a number of these movements powers the expensive Breitling for Bentley watches,) the caliber is built on 49 rubies and beats at a standard frequency of 28,800 vph offering a power reserve of just 40 hours.

It must be noted that, being more complex edifice than the natural born ETA Valjoux 7750 caliber, the Dubois-Depraz 44560 is more difficult to service, is generally more prone to failures and, if broken, is a hell more expensive to repair.

Chopard announced that the watch will be issued both in a stainless steel case (Ref. 168543-3001) and a rose gold body (Ref. 161286-5001) with the former limited to 2000 pieces and the latter restricted to just 500 units.

No info on pricing yet, but I am pretty positive that the steel version will cost at least $10,000 and the rose gold model will set you back at some $25,000 or even more.
