The American fashion brand that was established by an immigrant of Belarusian origin has just presented their new Ralph Lauren Slim Classique Square hand-wound wristwatch designed for ladies. Offered in an ultra-thin case that is currently available not only in flashy 18-carat rose gold, but also in a lot more inconspicuous white gold alloy, the new timekeeper is deceptively simple and absolutely fabulous.
Like many other fashion giants all over the civilized world, Ralph Lauren doesn’t make its own movements, but cooperates with established watchmakers to create luxury timepieces meant to be sold exclusively at their boutiques. The reason is simple: there are wealthy persons who are not aware about many watchmaking brands, but are eager to spend an impressive amount of money for a trinket with the logo of their favorite fashion house.
To make this possible, Ralph Lauren has partnered with the famous Swiss brand Piaget who provided the U.S.-based company both with their in-house movement and their extensive industrial design experience.
According to official info, this new Ralph Lauren Slim Classique Square watch is powered by an ultra-thin caliber RL430, which, as one can guess, is probably based on the well-known Piaget caliber 430P: a coin-sized hand-wound mechanical movement that comprises 131 parts, is built on 18 jewels and beats at a rather slow frequency of 21,600 vph. Being 20.50 mm in diameter and just 2.10 mm thick, the caliber is often used in Piaget’s ladies watches (we have seen it in the beginning of the year when the Swiss brand first presented its Piaget Altiplano 38 mm and 34mm models.)
Back to our sheep, though.
The new Slim Classique Square is presented in a slim, compact body of 27.50 mm long and wide and just 5.75 millimeters thick. Designed with a contemporary lady in mind, the watch offers a nicely executed Art-Deco-style dial with a nice mix or Roman (3, 6, 9 and 12) and Arabic numerals. While the version in rose gold has the dial painted in a color of egg-shell, the model in white gold features an interesting combo of guilloched dial and engraved bezel that together look like the timepiece is covered with a metallized lizard skin.
It is a pleasure to note that both dials seem to be very legible and easy to grasp, as long as you get used to its strange layout.
It is reported that the gadget will start as low as $12,600: not particularly expensive considering that the wristwatch is offered by a fashion brand and taking into accout current price of gold.
