The new Angular Momentum Montre Classique hand-wound wrist watch features dramatic, yet restrained design. This beautiful, unusual timekeeper combines clean, easy to read layout of the glossy black dial with beautifully hand-engraved case back featuring palladium-coated hand-engraved silver medallion with Angular Momentum‘s signature floral motif done by a skilled hand of an artisan.
The Swiss watchmaking brand Angular Momentum is mostly known for its laboriously decorated timepieces with dials and/or front crystals featuring either abstract paintings or meticulously reproduced fragments of the most treasured artifacts of European and Oriental cultures. Although the brand is still sort of obscure when it comes to an average enthusiast, they seem to have a clientele that is wealthy, loyal and numerous enough for the watchmaker to bravely experiment with styles, sizes and decoration techniques offering a constant stream of regularly updated timekeepers. Looking both daring and often amazingly beautiful, the timekeepers often come powered by rare mechanisms that, too, make them more interesting for collectors.
However, from time to time they produce more traditional timepieces that can actually be worn on a wrist without attracting too much unnecessary attention to their owner (I am typing this text sitting in an introvert’s chair, that’s why it is so important for me; not sure about you, though.)
The new Angular Momentum Montre Classique belongs to the latter breed.
Presented in a compact, slim-looking body 39 millimeters in diameter (a de facto standard for a modern dress watch,) which is crafted from their favorite 1.4435Cnu Staybrite stainless steel alloy, and featuring an easy to read black glossy dial with white Roman numerals, baton-shaped hands, the watch will look good not only in a museum, but also with a business suit without raising a single eyebrow.
As you can see on the photos, the piece is equipped with AM’s signature winding crown with a small black onyx cabochon.
As usual, the new watch is animated by a NOS (so called “New Old Stock”) FHF 96 hand-wound mechanical caliber that was manufactured by the long-gone Fabrique d’Horlogerie de Fontainemelon.
Built on 17 jewels and beating at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, this historic movement is simple, robust and reliable: that’s why it is quite popular among niche watchmakers.
Regrettably, the company doesn’t specify the price of its watch: you will have to contact them on their web-site to get a quote.
