The gorgeous Bulgari Serpenti family of ladies watches has been around for decades and during the time has survived a number of transformations, each brining it closer and closer to perfection. With the introduction of the 2012 Bulgari Serpenti line, the Italian jeweler can easily save money on developing the watch any further: I can’t really imagine how anyone on Earth can make this beautiful piece look any better.
While the last year’s Bulgari Serpenti 7 Coils ladies watch (well, it was more of an expensive bracelet that also could tell time) looked more like a harmless grass snake, the new iteration of the model seems to be inspired by a venomous (and quite easy to anger) rattlesnake.
As usual, the timekeeper is offered in at least two sizes: in a simple single-coil version and a more impressive double wrap-around variety.
If the previous history of the family is anything to go by, we will soon see an even more exciting (and expensive) version with even more elements forming the bracelet of the piece.
As you can see, the body of the watch is crafted from 18-carat rose gold, which is decorated with black enamel and whole 346 diamonds (for the double-coil version) that together total at almost 3.5 carats.
Of course, the bracelet’s decoration is not limited to precious stones and finely executed enameling. The interior part of each link also features the famous tread-like belly scales that allow these horrible reptiles to efficiently travel chasing its prey.
Since the head-shaped body of the watch is quite small in width, the watch is powered by a simple quartz movement with only a pair of hands and whole 12 rose markers. Crafted from rose gold, the dauphine-style hours and minutes hands look especially contrast on the jet-black background of a synthetic sapphire crystal that forms the dial of the piece.
There is also an inevitable BVLGARI logo in the upper half of the dial, which is, surprisingly, quite subdued compared to other timekeepers from the Italian fashion brand.
There is still no information regarding the 2012 MY Serpenti’s price, but a similarly styled model from the last year was offered at more than $45,000 for a single-coli version and I have a feeling that the new version will not be any cheaper. It will be presented during the Baselworld 2012 trade fair next month.
