Continuing to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the brand, the now Swiss-based brand of Cuban origin keeps introducing the most elegant timekeepers in its history. Their new Cuervo y Sobrinos Prominente 130° Aniversario (ref. 1015.1CLE) automatic wrist watch, for example, comes packed in an elegant rectangular case with ergonomically shaped integrated lugs and features a refined, highly legible dial.
Like the gorgeous Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Pequenos Segundos 130° Aniversario (ref. 3130.9N) that we have briefly reviewed last Thursday, the new timekeeper, too, has a rather unusual dial. If you will take a look at the promotional images below, you will notice that three of its applied hour markers are replaced with Arabic numerals that together form number “130”: a very nice touch.
Both the numerals and the hour markers, by the way, are accompanied by luminous dots that, together with the same lume on hours and minutes hands, make reading the watch in darkness especially easy. This is, by the way, a relatively rare feature in this niche: other watchmakers often think that a dress watch is supposed to be worn only office hours and refuse to put even a single drop of Superluminova on their pieces. Not with this Prominente 130° Aniversario.
A great number of us, Europeans, associate Cuba with delicious cigars, rum and coffee and it is nice that the watch sports a very organic choice of colors that remind us of those substances: cream dial with brown minute and hour tracks and a light-brown color of its Louisiana alligator leather strap, which is attached to the wrist with a stainless steel folding clasp.
Since the watch is powered by a very compact ETA 2892-A2 self-winding movement, its case is also not particularly large. Although the watch is quite long at 43 millimeters, its stainless steel is very well-proportioned measuring only 32 millimeters in width.
The only thing that I don’t like about this CyS Prominente 130° Aniversario is that it is going to be limited to only 500 pieces: it basically means that very soon it will become a rarity and I have already budgeted in another dress watch for this year. Well, it’s always like that.
As for the price, Cuervo y Sobrinos plans to sell this dressy timekeeper at a price of CHF 3000. Although not particularly affordable, it still seems reasonable if you factor in the gadget’s distinctive design and that familiar relaxing aura that encompasses you the moment you put the watch on your wrist, open a bottle of good rum and, perhaps, light a Cohiba to make things absolutely perfect.
