Created together with the Japanese soccer player Shinji Kagawa who also happens to play for the legendary Manchester United club, the new Hublot Aero Bang Red Devil 26 Limited Edition (ref. 311.QX.1113.GR) watch features the familiar combination of colors and materials that we usually associate with the British football club and the Swiss watchmaker respectively.
This is not the first that Hublot pays homage to the legendary football team. Around two years ago, the Swiss-based brand presented their Hublot King Power Red Devil (Refs. 716.CI.1129.RX.MAN11 and 716.OM.1129.RX.MAN11) collection of automatic watches.
Sporting lightweight and scratch-resistant ceramic bodies, both versions were as controversial as they were technically advanced (well, while caliber didn’t offer anything particularly interesting from the point of view of industrial design, the combination of materials and the way they were finished looked sort of stunning.) This new model takes the idea of a high-tech wristwatch even further using an even more outrageous combination of materials, textures and colors.
As you can see on the press photos above and below, the watch now comes in a complex black carbon fiber body that features up to 12 layers of carbon fiber glued together to form the signature Big Bang shape that millions of enthusiasts love so much.
To make the watch looking even more appealing, Hublot equipped the Red Devil 26 with a red-tinted sapphire crystal.
Probably identical to the job employed in their recent Ferrari Carbon Red Magic model, the crystal gives the skeletonized dial of the timepiece that purple haze, which is usually associated with the place of dwelling of the person that occupies the small seconds sub-dial at 9 hours.
In its press release, Hublot doesn’t say a single word about the timekeeper’s price, but the watch will surely be quite expensive*. As usual, part of the proceedings (a total of 3 million Japanese yen or around $32,000 USD) will be donated to aid Japanese children in need.
* UPDATE ON PRICE: The Red Devil 26 is currently listed at ¥2,862,000, which makes it quite expensive, but not excessively so given the brand’s tendency to overprice their timekeepers. However, with a total number of watches limited at 50 pieces and an expected gross of more than ¥143 million, the three million yen that Hublot plans to donate to Japanese kids starts to sound not particularly impressive. I mean, like, just some 2% of the proceedings?
