In March 2011, during the Baselworld 2011 trade show, Bell & Ross has presented its new BR 01-92 Ceramic automatic pilot’s watch.
Marking the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, the Jaeger-LeCoultre has issued a special limited edition of their iconic Reverso model. The 2011 Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Special Italian Edition will be sold in a limited lot of only 150 pieces. Something tells me that most (if not all) of these spec. ed. wristwatches will go directly to the brand’s Italian boutiques, which is a pity, because, you know: collector’s value.
With the new Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver Black Sea (Ref. 263-92-3C), the Swiss watchmaker once again updates its maritime-inspired collection. Looking deliciously un-Rolex with its vulcanized rubber case and eerie black-and-red color scheme, the Black Sea may not be as versatile as a Submariner, but it definitely is as original as money could buy.
The Italian-based brand has recently released a new version of its last year’s Altanus Elite Chrono Sport (ref. 7916B-01) quartz-powered chronograph.
It looks like Orient is finally going to reintroduce its M-Force series of sporty timekeepers to the North American market. The offensive will begin with the new Wunderwaffe: the 2011 M-Force 200M (refs. EL03001B, EL03001D & EL03002M) automatic diver. Available in three colors of its dial (black, blue and orange with the pale green luminescent substance on its hour markers and hands,) the new timekeeper is officially rated for 200 meters, which makes it a perfect companion for recreational scuba diving.
Although the automatic Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Double Retrograde Edition Limitee (Ref. MP6519-PG101-430) is not as outrageously extravagant as the gorgeous Masterpiece Roue Carree Seconde, it still looks original and, well, desirable.
The 2011 Corum Admiral’s Cup Seafender 46 Chrono Dive (ref. 753.451.04-0371 AN22) offers a COSC-certified chronometer movement in a signature dodecagonal rugged case good for depths down to 300 meters. Although using such an expensive “tool” for routine diving probably wouldn’t be a good idea, it still looks like a great accessory for a person interested in something deliberately ‘masculine.’
Established by a master-watchmaker Martin Braun, the young brand Antoine Martin is going to officially present its first manufacture-made Quantieme Perpetual QP01.700.1 model that sports brilliantly designed Big Date and Perpetual Calendar complications.
Although I was not particularly impressed with the last year’s SuperQuartz version, I kinda like the design of the new Breitling Chronospace Chronograph Automatic model, which is now powered by a less accurate but still more charismatic mechanical movement.
At the last SIHH 2011 industry event that gathers crème de la crème of the Swiss watchmaking community, the French jeweler that also rapidly becomes a serious Manufacture, has presented the limited-edition Extra-Flat Ballon Bleu de Cartier collection. The one that is -regretfully rather briefly- reviewed here, is the version that features a precious platinum case and comes with a reference number of W6920059. With its daringly huge diameter of 46 millimeters that is nicely contrasted by a hair-thin profile, it will surely attract attention to its owner, whether they want it or not.
