December 28, 2010

Louis Erard 1931 Chronometer automatic chronograph watch (Ref. 79 220 OR 22)

Together with Fortis, Louis Erard belongs to Gevril Group: a tiny conglomerate currently owned by Samuel Friedmann. In late 2010, the watchmaker has presented a new member of their Classic 1931 collection. Called 1931 Chronometer (Ref. 79 220 OR 22), the premium-priced chronograph is now available in an even more expensive body that is crafted from 18-karat rose gold.

Philosophy of Time: JS Watch Co. Islandus Chronograph

December 11, 2010

JS Watch Co. Islandus Chronograph automatic watch

The new JS Watch Co. Islandus Chronograph collection of self-winding watches was first announced by the Iceland-based brand only a couple of months ago. Surprisingly, it took the watchmaking specialist a very short span of time to actually start selling the timepiece. Featuring a deceptively simple, vintage-styled design of its dial with all of its elements carefully thought over and executed with great attention to details, the new chronograph comes in a somewhat oversized stainless steel body, which is a little too big to my taste, but still looks great on a wrist of an average person.

Breitling Issues an Homage to the Iconic SR-71 Blackbird

Breitling Blackbird Red Strike Chronograph Limited Edition

Presented in the traditionally massive stainless steel body, the limited-edition Breitling Blackbird Red Strike Chronograph may be of particular interest to those still living in the times of the Caribbean Crisis and dreaming about preemptive nuclear strikes and reconnaissance flights over Soviet Russia. A high annual income is also a must since the chronograph won’t come cheap.

Panerai Luminor Composite 3 Days PAM 386 in Ceramic

Ahead of the SIHH 2011 industry event, Panerai has announced its Luminor Composite PAM 386 model in a scratch-resistant ceramic case. Measuring just 44 millimeters in width, the new member of the Luminor family is more, um, wearable than the last year’s ceramic piece, while still retaining its heavy masculine presence and offering clean, easily recognizable design of its dial.

Bulgari Papillon Chronograph in rose gold

Bvlgari Papillon Chronograph in Rose Gold automatic watch (ref. BRRP46C14GLCHP)

Just like the recently unveiled Daniel Roth Grande Lune, the new Bulgari Papillon Chronograph in Rose Gold (ref. BRRP46C14GLCHP) is a refreshed and rebadged version of the original chronograph that was introduced in 2008 by Daniel Roth.

If you happened to live under the proverbial rock during the last year, then I have to inform you with the deepest regret that the Italian fashion house finally decided to completely absorb the Swiss-based brand and gradually start selling its iconic models under its own trademark. Well, there goes another legend.

Bulgari’s New Grande Lune Moonphase is A Rebadged Daniel Roth Watch

November 9, 2010

Bulgari Daniel Roth Grande Lune moonphase watch

The self-winding Bvlgari Daniel Roth Grande Lune (ref. 101845) offers unrivaled accuracy of its moonphase complication. Although now coming with an appended brand name of the Italian fashion and jewelry house, the Grande Lune delivers the familiar shape and dial decor and is still powered by the same Frederic Piguet Lepine-type hand-wound movement that was modified and decorated in-house.
