While this Chopard Happy Sport Medium (ref. 278559-3001) doesn't introduce anything new in terms of the shape of its bulky-looking body or dial layout, the new member of the family marks the dawn of a new era for the Swiss watchmaker (or, at least, for the HS model range): it is in fact the first Happy Sport model that swaps a simple and not particularly inspiring quartz movement for a more stimulating self-winding caliber.
GP keeps updating its famous (and light-years out of reach for an average Joe) Three Gold Bridges family of ultra-luxury dress watches. The new Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Tourbillon Three Gold Bridges (Ref. 99880-52-001-BA6A), for example, leaves the basic layout of the earlier ref. 99880-52-000-BA6A intact, but adds a nicely decorated dial with vertical guilloche and a high-tech anthracite-grey NAC surface treatment.
Presented in a slightly oversized (though almost impeccably proportionate) stainless steel body, the automatic Louis Erard Excellence Ladies Chronograph (ref. 82 234 SE 01) not only has its razor-thin bezel set with dozens of finely cut diamonds: It is also animated by a rare Swiss made caliber. The ultra-compact self-winding movement was designed by ETA to be used exclusively in watches designed with the better half of humanity in mind. In fact, the new timekeeper is one of the most elegant "ladies" chronographs set to be revealed at this year's Baselworld show.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legendary franchise, the Swiss watchmaker has released its new Omega Seamaster 300M James Bond 007 50th Anniversary Collector's Piece diver. Sporting numerous references to the immortal franchise, the device may be of great interest to the huge crowd of fans. As one might have expected, the new timepiece was presented by Mr. Daniel Craig himself.
Valentine's Day will be here in less than five weeks and we'd better get the gifts ready. Or else. Like many other watchmakers and jewelers, Chopard is ready to capitalize on the upcoming craze by offering a special Valentine's Day version of its bestselling Happy Sport collection. The Chopard Happy Heart Valentine's Day Edition (Ref. 278475-3044) sports a polished stainless steel case, features three finely cut diamonds, but -somewhat disappointingly- is animated by a simple quartz movement.
The 2012 Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Tourbillon Three Golden Bridges offers a variation of the well-known GP Caliber 9600 installed into an Art Deco case.
